Historical and Traditional Uses

Because Rosemary is a brain stimulant, it was often used in nerve tonics for general weakness, lethargy, fatigue and exhaustion and to alleviate headaches. It was usually combined with lavender and 1% peppermint as a headache remedy. A great analgesic, it was applied for muscle pain, arthritis, inflammation, sciatica, neuralgia, spasms, cramps, gout, injury, bruises, improve the vitality of paralysed limbs, and muscle fatigue.

It supports the circulation especially of the head, hands and feet and relieved the symptoms of low blood pressure, heart palpitations, poor circulation and giddiness. Warm compresses of Rosemary were used to relieve liver and gall bladder problems and infections due to its antiseptic and stimulating properties.

For thousands of years it has been used in hair products to prevent dandruff, premature baldness and stimulate general hair health and promote hair growth.

Because of its antiseptic and antispasmodic influence it was included in remedies for coughs, colds, asthma, sinusitis and the flu.
