Also excellent for relaxation during labour, especially when blended with Chamomile as it calms the nervous system and acts as a form of pain relief.
Clary sage is beneficial for hormonal imbalances in the body as it contains natural phytoestrogens (plant-based compounds that mimic estrogen in the body).
A lot of health issues today (infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome and estrogen-based cancers) are caused from excess estrogen in the body — partly because our consumption of high-estrogen foods. Because Clary sage helps balance estrogen levels, it is highly effective.
Historical and Traditional Uses
Helping to alleviate symptoms of PMS, cramps, heavy menstrual cycles, mood swings, food cravings and hot flashes.
Used in clinical trials during childbirth, Clary Sage was found to accelerate labour and because of its ability to cause uterine contractions, it also assisted in the birth of the placenta and may prevent post-partum haemorrhage (excessive bleeding).

Safety and Precautions
Clary Sage is non-toxic and non-sensitising. Avoid during pregnancy.
However - if approved by a health practitioner, pregnant women may use Clary Sage with extreme caution. Clary Sage, along with Rose and Jasmine are emmengagogue oils which can cause uterine contractions that may be dangerous in the early stages of pregnancy. Clary Sage is a wonderful oil to use when in labour for pain relief and to help strengthen uterine contractions. Clary Sage is often recommended by midwives.
Clary sage oil is not suitable for infants or toddlers.
